You know you are in an exotic location like the Gili Islands when you have an outdoor bathroom. There is just something about it that screams HOLIDAY! Add to that the fact that the bar at the beach club had swing seats. So. Impressed.

We had arrived on Gili Air, one of the Gili islands off Bali and Lombok. I was excited, as I had been to one of the other islands (Gili T) before and loved it. Turns out, I had been to Gili Air as well! Riding around on our bikes, things just looked…familiar. Thinking back I realised I had spent 5 days here back in 2013. And I’d loved it then too!

No cars here!

We stayed at Grand Sunset Resort, on the west cost beach with a perfect view of sunset…which is where we spent every afternoon. And most nights. The food at the beach club was amazing. As were the cocktails. You’re meant to spoil yourselves on a honeymoon, right?

During the day we swam, rode bikes and dived. We dived everyday, even though most days we were the only ones. It was like having a private tour of the reef. We saw 9 turtles on our first dive which set the expectations high for the rest.

I realised that I missed diving. It’s so peaceful and freeing. That said, there is no way I am diving in the lakes of Austria. Way to cold! Sorry husband.

As always, I was sad to finish a holiday and this one had been a rollercoaster of emotions – all the hellos, the introductions and of course, the farewells. I am tearing up now thinking about saying goodbyes. This is the downside of being away from ‘home’. But I am excited to see what adventures await me back in Vienna.

Guess this means, back to German classes!
