What was originally intended to be an overnight stopover to break up a bus trip turned into a two night stay. We were enticed by the gorgeous buildings, small streets and the old historical zone, complete with a still partially intact wall surrounding the old city.

However things started to get a little strange when after dinner we couldn’t find any people out. We asked around, but it appeared that we were the only gringos in town.

(Drinking by ourselves results in oversalting of Corona…)

The food was also a major let down. Maybe because they get so few tourists that they don’t bother trying. We tried both well reviewed restaurants and local hangouts and were disappointed by all.

(Apparently this passed for macaroni and cheese)

(We resorted to trying JalapeƱos at Burger King)

(The only decent food in town!)

But the town itself is gorgeous and seems to have the highest VW beetle per capita ratio in Mexico – and that is pretty high! And being set on the coast does add to the attractiveness of this town.

(Yes, I realise I am developing an obsession with taking photos of candles in churches…)
